Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Wales is an internationally recognised training and certificate.

I am a licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor for Wales and can deliver Adult MHFA Wales in person or online.

MHFA is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until the appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

MHFA certification typically lasts for three years and you will receive a certificate to confirm your training as an Adult Mental Health First Aider.

Adult MHFA Wales – 2 Day Course (Classroom Based)

The 12 hour AMHFA (Wales) course teaches adults how to provide Mental Health First Aid to friends, families and co-workers.

Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until the appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves

The Adult Mental Health First Aid (Wales) course is based on international MHFA Guidelines. Curriculum content is evidence-based, with the input of mental health professionals, researchers, and consumer advocates.

What will I learn?

As a participant, you will gain improved knowledge of mental illnesses and their interventions, knowledge of appropriate first aid strategies, and confidence in helping individuals experiencing a mental health problem. Topics covered include:

Developing mental health problems

• Depression

• Anxiety problems

• Psychosis

• Substance use problems

Mental health crises:

• Suicidal thoughts and behaviours

• Non-suicidal self-injury

• Panic attacks

• Traumatic events

• Severe psychotic states

• Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use

• Aggressive behaviours

The eAMHFA Wales course teaches adults how to provide Mental Health First Aid to friends, families and co-workers and can be completed from the convenience of your home or office, without the need to travel and at your own pace through interactive modules and webinars online.

There are compulsory interactive modules to be completed prior to your first webinar and another set in between your first and second webinar. Each set of modules will take around 2-3 hours to complete, depending on individual learner pace and each 3 hour webinar must be attended live in order to gain certification. Participants will gain access to the modules 2 weeks prior to their first webinar.

As part of this course, you will be able to access the online version of the MHFA Wales Manual.

*Please note that due to the sensitive topics discussed within the training it is recommended that participants have an appropriate level of wellbeing before attending.

Whist sharing experiences can benefit the training experience participants must be aware that Mental Health First Aid is designed to help participants support others and is not intended as a therapy session for the participant. This is for the comfort for all participants

**MHFA Wales is only licensed to provide this training course for those who live and/or work in Wales. Participants from other countries who wish to become trained in MHFA will need to contact the national provider licensed to deliver in their country.
